About KnowVendor

Bringing government data to the people who need it most.

What we do

KnowVendor aggregates publicly available data from US government sources to help procurement teams, compliance officers, and vendor management teams make defensible decisions before entering into vendor relationships.

Before signing a contract, you deserve to know whether a vendor has been excluded from federal programs, cited for workplace safety violations at a facility, or issued out-of-service orders by the FMCSA. That information is public — we just make it easy to find, with clear attribution for each risk signal.

Our data sources

  • SAM.govSystem for Award Management. Federal exclusions and entity registry maintained by the US General Services Administration. Linked by UEI (Unique Entity Identifier).
  • FMCSAFederal Motor Carrier Safety Administration out-of-service orders for carriers and freight brokers. Linked by USDOT number.
  • OSHAWorkplace safety inspection records from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Tracked at facility level — not attributed as confirmed company risk without a reviewed facility-entity link.
  • USAspending.govFederal contract and award history from the official source of US government spending data. Shows procurement experience, award volume, and agency relationships. This is contracting context — not a risk signal. A vendor with federal awards is not inherently safe, and a vendor without them is not inherently risky.

How records are linked

A risk record only appears on a company profile when a stable, government-issued identifier confirms the match. We use UEI, CAGE, and USDOT as primary linking keys. Name-only matches are never auto-accepted — they are held as candidates and never shown as confirmed risk.
